Call to Crafters for Color Storm!

  • Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens 145 Alverson Boulevard Everett, WA, 98201 United States (map)

A call to crafters for Color Storm - an event to cover the Arboretum with yarn bombing in March 2024! Here’s how you can participate:

Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a colorful display during March, 2024.

1. We need colorful knitted or crocheted rectangles to wrap around trees in the Evergreen Arboretum. Get fancy or stick with stripes. Dimensions of the rectangles will vary, depending on the tree size. We have trees with single trunks in a variety of circumferences and many with multiple trunks. The idea is to knit a rectangle large enough in length and width to wrap around a tree once. It can then be sewn up the back to cover the trunk. Visit the Arboretum in Everett’s Legion Park at 145 Alverson Blvd. to pick your tree, snap a photo, and send it to contactus@evergreenarboretum.com to stake your claim. Or let us pick a tree for you and send you dimensions.

2. Now get creative! Use leftover yarns from previous projects or visit Great Yarns in Everett at 4023 Rucker Ave. and select up to three free skeins of Cascade Pacific wool/polyester blend. Go for bright colors for the most impact.

3. Turn the rectangles in at Great Yarns by February 16, 2024. Attach your name and a photo of the tree you knitted for. We’ll sew them on the trees before the grand reveal on March 1. Let us know if you’d like to help sew.

4. And there’s more: join us at Great Yarns and the YMCA for 3 different pompom workshops:

Jan 31: 3-5 PM at Great Yarns, 4023 Rucker Avenue in Everett

Feb 10th: 1-3 PM at Great Yarns, 4023 Rucker Avenue in Everett

Feb 21st: 11AM-12PM at Everett YMCA, 4730 Colby Avenue in Everett

What you can expect: Yarns, pompom makers, and a great time supplied!. The pompoms will be mounted on stems and planted in the Arboretum’s entry bed or hung from trees. You can also make your pompoms at home and drop them off. Leave long tails to help us fasten them to stems or trees.

5. Craft groups are welcome to work together to wrap larger trees or multi-trunk trees. Or join us at Great Yarns on the 1st or 3rd Wednesday of each month from 5 - 7 p.m. and knit in the company of others.
